What is Friends of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (FoNIBIB)?
FoNIBIB is a coalition of organizations led by the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) dedicated to supporting the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB).

Bruce J. Tromberg, Ph.D. (AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2006) has served as the Director of the NIBIB since January 2019
Founded in 2000 through coordinated efforts by AIMBE and The Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging, NIBIB is one of 27 Institutes and Centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIBIB’s mission is to transform, through technology development, our understanding of disease and its prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
In Fall 2024, AIMBE launched FoNIBIB with the objective of advocating for NIBIB initiatives that shape public health and research policies. Our objectives are to increase public awareness and support for NIBIB’s scientific goals and commitment to training the next generation of interdisciplinary researchers.
